Where locals go
Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila
Everyday Parras
The plaza is the town’s living room. In the evening, when the heat lets up, families come out to sit, kids run around, and the taco and antojito stands set up. This is where locals actually spend their downtime, not at any tourist strip, because Parras does not really have one.
Where people eat and drink
Skip the idea of a fancy scene and follow the crowds to the taquerías and loncherías around the center, where the cabrito, gorditas, and tacos are cheap and honest. Weekend mornings mean menudo and barbacoa at the spots that sell out early. For a drink, it is Casa Madero wine or a cold beer at a plaza-side table rather than bars.
Day off
On a hot day off, locals do what visitors should do: head to the balnearios to swim in the spring water. Families claim a shaded spot, bring food, and spend the whole afternoon. It is the town’s real social ritual.
A local’s tip
Go to the pools and the plaza in the late afternoon and early evening. Midday is for hiding from the sun; the town comes alive once it cools, and that is when you see the real Parras.
