Where to stay

Acapulco, Guerrero

Where to base yourself

For a one-night stop built around the cliff divers, the calculus is simple: stay close to what you came for and near enough to eat well and get out easily.

Old Acapulco and La Quebrada

The west end of the bay, around the zócalo and the cliffs. This is where the nostalgia lives, and it puts you walking distance from the dive show and the old-town food. It suits history-minded visitors and anyone here for a single, focused night. It’s more faded and less polished than the strip, but it’s the most characterful base.

The Costera (hotel strip)

The long boulevard curving around the bay is the traditional resort zone: bigger hotels, more services, the beaches most visitors picture. It suits first-timers who want a conventional, easy set-up and don’t mind that many properties are past their prime. Some stretches are still recovering from Hurricane Otis, so check recent guest reviews before booking, not just the photos.

Diamante (east end)

The newer, higher-end zone out toward the airport, with the more modern resorts. It suits travelers who want a comfortable, self-contained stay and plan to move mostly by car or hotel transfer. The trade-off is distance: you’re a real drive from Old Acapulco and the divers.

Our pick

For the classic one-night visit, Old Acapulco wins on proximity and atmosphere. Choose Diamante only if comfort and a modern room matter more than being near the sights.
