Visiting info

Prismas Basálticos, Hidalgo

Hours and fees (approximate)

The site is open daily, roughly from mid-morning to late afternoon, with shorter hours than you might expect for a natural attraction, so it is not a place to arrive late. Entry is a modest fee, in the range of a few tens of pesos per adult, usually collected at the gate. Treat these as approximate. The exact hours and price are verified separately and carry confirmation dates as we lock them in.

How long to allow

Be realistic. The core visit, walking down into the ravine, crossing the two suspension footbridges and taking your photos, runs well under an hour. Even at a slow pace with a snack stop you are looking at an hour to 90 minutes. This is a half-day stop at most, best combined with Huasca.

Best time of day

Come early. The bridges are the photo everyone wants, and by late morning tour groups queue to cross the narrow spans, especially on weekends and holidays. Arriving near opening gets you quieter bridges, softer light and cooler air.

What to bring

  • Cash in small bills for entry and any parking or snacks. Card payment is not reliable here.
  • Grippy shoes. The paths and steps down into the ravine get slick after rain.
  • A light rain layer in the July to October wet season, when the waterfall is full but afternoon showers roll in.
  • Sun protection for the exposed sections.

Come in the rainy months if the waterfall matters to you. In the dry spring it can be a thin trickle.
