Where to stay
Tepoztlán, Morelos
Where to base yourself
Tepoztlán is small, so “where to stay” is really about how close to the noise you want to be. Most visitors only stay a night, if that, but the choice still matters.
In the center
Staying within a few blocks of the zócalo puts you steps from the market, the ex-convent, the restaurants and the Tepozteco trailhead. Best for first-timers and anyone on a single night who wants to walk everywhere. The trade-off: weekend evenings are lively and the streets can be busy and a bit loud until late.
The hillside lanes and edges of town
Head up the cobbled lanes toward the cliffs and you trade walkability for quiet and views. This is where the boutique posadas, casitas and the odd small hotel with a pool and mountain outlook sit. Best for couples, anyone staying two nights, and people who want calm over convenience. Bring comfortable shoes — the streets are steep and uneven — and plan on a short taxi ride back if you’re out late.
Budget and practical notes
Budget travelers do fine with simple guesthouses and rooms near the center. Rates climb sharply for weekends and holidays, when the whole town fills up, so book ahead if you’re coming Friday to Sunday. Midweek you’ll find both more space and better prices. There’s no real “nightlife district” here — it’s mezcalerías and long dinners, not clubs — so pick your base for quiet or for being close to the market, not for a party scene.
