Getting there & around
Atlixco, Puebla
Getting there
Atlixco is an easy hop from Puebla city, about 30 to 40 minutes southwest, and that’s how nearly everyone arrives.
From Puebla by colectivo or bus. Frequent vans and second-class buses run from Puebla to Atlixco throughout the day for a small fare (roughly a few dollars, approximate). They drop you near the center. Cheap and reliable, if not luxurious — expect a full van and a few stops.
By car. The quickest option. Take the highway southwest from Puebla; it’s a short, straightforward drive of around 30 minutes outside of rush hour. A car is genuinely useful here because the nurseries are spread along the edges of town.
By air. The nearest airport is Puebla (PBC), and Mexico City’s airports are the bigger long-haul option about two-plus hours away. Either way you’ll route through Puebla city first — there’s no reason to fly toward Atlixco directly.
Getting around
The center is small and flat enough to cover entirely on foot; you won’t need transport for the zocalo, market, church, or the San Miguel stairs.
For the nurseries and outskirts, grab a taxi or drive — they’re too spread out to walk comfortably.
Honest notes. During Villa Iluminada in December, traffic and parking near the center get bad on weekend evenings; arrive early or come by colectivo and skip the parking hunt. The rest of the year, getting in and out is painless.
