Getting there & around

Cholula, Puebla

Getting there

From Puebla city. This is the normal way in, and it is quick. Cholula is about 15 to 20 minutes west by car. Colectivos and local buses run frequently from Puebla and cost only a few pesos; an Uber or cab is still cheap and drops you exactly where you want. Times are approximate and depend on traffic.

From Mexico City. Buses run to Puebla’s CAPU terminal in roughly 2 to 2.5 hours, then it is a short hop to Cholula by colectivo, Uber or cab. Some operators run buses closer to Cholula directly — worth checking. Driving from Mexico City is a similar 2-hour-plus run on the highway.

By air. Puebla’s airport (PBC) is the nearest, a short drive away, but it has limited routes. Most travelers fly into Mexico City instead and come overland.

Getting around

Once you are in Cholula, walk. The pyramid, the church hill, San Pedro’s zócalo and the main streets are all close together and best on foot.

  • Between San Pedro and San Andrés, the two halves either side of the pyramid, it is a walkable distance or a very short cab ride.
  • Ubers and cabs are cheap and easy for late nights or reaching your hotel on the quieter edges.
  • Cobblestones and curbs are uneven — comfortable shoes matter more than any transport tip here.

Honest note: nothing about arriving or moving around Cholula is difficult or uncomfortable. It is one of the easiest day trips in the region.
