Getting there & around
Queretaro, Queretaro
Getting there
- By air. Queretaro Intercontinental (QRO) sits about 30 to 40 minutes east of the center by car. It handles domestic flights plus a handful of US routes. Small, calm, easy. From the terminal, take an authorized airport taxi or a rideshare into town; budget roughly 20 to 30 minutes off-peak, longer in traffic. Approximate figures, so confirm current fares locally.
- By bus. This is how most Mexicans arrive, and it is excellent. The Central de Autobuses (TAQ) has frequent first-class service. Mexico City is roughly 3 to 3.5 hours; San Miguel de Allende about 1 to 1.5 hours; Guanajuato around 2.5 to 3 hours. First-class coaches are comfortable, air-conditioned and worth the small premium.
- By car. Queretaro sits on the main highway spine north of Mexico City, so driving in is straightforward on toll roads (about 2.5 to 3 hours from the capital). Keep to the toll highways and daylight for the most comfortable run.
Getting around
- On foot. The Centro Historico is made for walking and largely pedestrian. If you sleep in or near it, you may not need transport at all.
- Rideshare and taxis. App-based rideshare works well and is the easy way to reach the airport, the bus station or outer neighborhoods. For taxis, use official stands rather than flagging on the street.
- Driving in the center. Not worth it. Narrow one-way stone streets and scarce parking make a car a liability downtown. Park it at the hotel and walk.
Honest note
The bus network in and out is genuinely good, so you do not need to fly or drive to enjoy the city. Just avoid arriving in the middle of a summer afternoon downpour if you can help it.
