Getting there & around

Álamos, Sonora

Getting to Álamos

Álamos sits off the highway southeast of Navojoa, and there is no airport or big bus terminal in town — you route through Navojoa first.

By air

The nearest useful airports are Ciudad Obregón (CEN) and, a bit farther, Los Mochis (LMM) down in Sinaloa. From either you drive or bus to Navojoa, then cover the last stretch to Álamos. Reckon roughly an hour and a bit from Ciudad Obregón to Navojoa, plus about another hour on to Álamos — approximate, and worth padding.

By bus

Long-distance buses run to Navojoa from all over the northwest along the main highway corridor. From Navojoa, local buses and colectivos make the roughly hour-long run out to Álamos through the foothills. It is doable without a car but slower and less flexible, and the last connection can be earlier than you would like — check return times before you commit to a day trip.

By car

Driving is the easy option and the one most winter visitors take. The Navojoa–Álamos road is paved and straightforward, a scenic climb into the hills that takes about an hour. Do the drive in daylight — it is not lit and rural roads here have no shoulders.

Getting around town

Once you arrive, park the car and walk. Álamos is small, flat-ish and entirely walkable — you can cross it in twenty minutes. The one caution is the cobblestones and dim streets at night, so decent shoes and a flashlight help. For trips out to La Aduana or trailheads, you will want your own vehicle or a hired guide with one.
