Visiting info
Uxmal, Yucatán
Here is the practical detail for planning a visit. Treat the numbers as approximate; the site verifies exact hours and fees separately.
Hours and fees
- Opening: Roughly 8am to 5pm daily, with last entry in the late afternoon. Approximate, confirm before you go.
- Admission: Uxmal carries two combined charges, a federal INAH fee plus a state of Yucatán fee. Together they land somewhere in the mid hundreds of pesos per adult. Approximate, and it has risen over the years. Bring cash in pesos; do not assume cards work at the gate.
- Sound-and-light show: A seasonal evening show runs separately from daytime entry and is not always operating. Check locally if it matters to you.
How long to allow
Two to three hours covers the full loop at a relaxed pace, more if you linger over the carvings or climb the Great Pyramid.
Beating crowds and heat
Go right at opening. The site has almost no shade, the stone radiates heat by late morning, and the tour coaches tend to roll in mid-morning. Early means cooler, emptier and better light on the facades.
What to bring
- Water, more than you think, there is little relief on site
- Sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses
- Real shoes with grip for the steep, uneven pyramid steps
- Cash in pesos for entry and the small shops
- A refillable bottle and, if you burn easily, a light long sleeve
